Japanese Society of Clinical Sports Medicine 34th Annual Meeting
November 11, 2023
Yokohama, Japan
On November 11, the Japanese Society of Clinical Sports Medicine is having its 34th Annual Meeting in Yokohama, Japan. USDA's U.S. Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) - Tokyo is sponsoring a one-hour luncheon seminar within this academic meeting to raise awareness of the benefits of U.S. food and agriculture in supporting athletes' health and nutrition needs sustainably. Established in 1989, the Japanese Society of Clinical Sports Medicine was established to promote academic research, information exchange, and clinical training among clinicians across all fields of sports medicine. The society has over 2,500 members and over 2,000 associate members across Japan.
USDEC is one of several export-focused associations collaborating with the ATO Tokyo office to support this luncheon. USDEC's aim for participating is to provide an important platform to reinforce U.S. dairy proteins as a nutritious, high quality, complete protein source that ideally fits into athlete-friendly Japanese meals.
Nanna Meyer, PhD, RD, CSSD, Associate Professor of Human Physiology and Nutrition at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, will deliver a pre-recorded talk on nutritious and sustainable food initiatives that support health and sports performance. Ms. Reiko Hashimoto, Japanese Certified Sports Nutritionist, will also be introducing a special "Athlete's Plate" Lunchbox to seminar participants at the luncheon. The Japan-friendly lunch menu is prepared with U.S. food and agriculture products tailored to support athletes' nutritional needs, including three items using U.S. whey protein.
Participants will also receive a pamphlet with further information about U.S. agriculture, highlighting U.S. whey proteins and their benefits in supporting sports performance, with QR codes to access further information about U.S. dairy protein nutrition, recipes, etc.
